Step 1: eSIM Activation

Single Click activation is available for iOS devices with OS 17.4 and above.

  • Ensure you are on a stable WiFi connection
  • Make sure Airplane mode is OFF on your device

Activating your Roam eSIM
  1. Open the Roam app and click "Activate Now"
  2. Click "Start Activation"
  3. Click "Allow" when prompted, then click "Continue"

Your eSIM will take 1–2 minutes to activate. Please ensure your screen does not go dark during this process.


Configuring iOS Default Settings
  1. When you see "Cellular Setup Complete", click "Continue"
  2. For Default Line, select Primary and click "Continue"
  3. For iMessage & FaceTime, select Primary and click "Continue" (this is critical)
  4. For Cellular/Mobile Data, select Primary and turn ON "Allow Data Switching", then click "Continue"

Please note the label assigned to your new eSIM by iOS. It will likely be labeled Personal, Travel, Secondary, Business or Cellular Data. You’ll need this label in the next step.

  1. You will need to send the QR code to another device near you (like your laptop, tablet, or friend's phone)
  2. Open the Roam app and click "Activate Now"
  3. Click "Send QR Code"
  4. Select an app and send the QR code to the device near you
  5. Open the camera on your iPhone and scan the QR code you just shared
  6. You will get the "Activate eSIM" screen. Click "Continue"
  7. After 5–10 seconds, click "Continue" again

Your eSIM will take 1–2 minutes to activate. Please ensure your screen does not go dark during this process.


Configuring iOS Default Settings

Step 2: eSIM Settings
  1. Go to iPhone Settings → Cellular/Mobile and scroll to the SIMs section
  2. Tap on the Roam eSIM (usually labeled Personal, Secondary, Travel, Business, or Cellular Data)
  3. At the top you’ll see BICS, Proximus or 1010/CSL — that confirms it’s Roam. You can rename it to “Roam”
  4. Turn Data Roaming ON for Roam eSIM
  5. Go back and tap on your Primary SIM (the one with your regular phone number)
  6. Turn Data Roaming OFF for your Primary SIM
Configure Cellular/Mobile Data
  • Go back, scroll up, and tap on Cellular/Mobile Data
  • If you want Roam to automatically take over when abroad:
    • Select Primary AND
    • Turn ON Allow Data Switching
  • If you prefer manual control:
    • Select Roam eSIM when abroad
    • Select Primary SIM when back home
(Recommended) Enable Low Data Mode
  1. Go to iPhone Settings → Cellular/Mobile
  2. Tap on Roam eSIM
  3. Tap on Data Mode
  4. Select Low Data Mode

This avoids background data use without affecting speed when you actively use your phone.


Final Note
  • As long as Data Roaming is OFF for your Primary SIM, you will not be charged for data roaming.

  • However, your mobile operator might still charge for calls or SMS. Receiving SMS is always free — even abroad. To completely avoid roaming charges, you can turn OFF your Primary SIM while traveling. Just note: you won’t be able to receive SMS with it off.

  3. Copy the SMDP+ Address (click the copy icon next to it)

  5. Scroll down to SIMs and tap "Add eSIM"
  6. If you see a "Set Up Cellular" screen, you can skip it
  7. Tap "Use QR Code" → then tap "Enter Details Manually"
  8. Paste the SMDP+ Address in the first field
  9. Go back to the Roam app and copy the Activation Code
  10. Return to the “Enter Details Manually” screen and paste the Activation Code in the second field
  11. Tap Next

  6. Paste the Activation Code into the field and tap "Done"
  7. Wait a few seconds and on the next screen tap "Add"

Your eSIM will take 1–2 minutes to activate. Make sure your screen stays active during this process.

Note: If you don’t see the "Add eSIM" option, your device may not support eSIM.


Step 2: eSIM Settings
  1. To use Roam for mobile data:
    • Go to Device Settings → Connections → SIM Manager
    • Select Roam eSIM for Mobile Data
      (It will display BICS or Proximus under the eSIM label)
  2. Turn ON Data Roaming for Roam:
    • Go to Device Settings → Connections → Mobile Networks
    • Enable Data Roaming
Configure Your APN Settings (if needed)

Sometimes APN settings may not auto-populate. If blank, follow these steps:

  • Go to Device Settings → Mobile Networks → Access Point Names
  • Select Roam eSIM (at the bottom of the screen)
  • If no APN is listed or the fields are empty, tap "Add" at the top-right

Enter the appropriate APN details based on your eSIM provider:

All other fields (Proxy, Port, Username, etc.) can remain blank.


When You Want to Stop Using Roam for Data
  1. Go to Device Settings → Connections → Mobile Networks
  2. Turn OFF Data Roaming
  3. Then go to SIM Manager and select your regular SIM for Mobile Data

Final Notes

Your settings screen might look slightly different depending on your Android device model or manufacturer.
